Food Safety & Trooper’s Adventures

Trooper is growing fast but that doesn’t stop him & his adventures! It’s amazing how fast these little pups can grow. It seems just like yesterday, he was a shy little fella but now he’s a bright, energetic and full of adventure dog.

As a growing dog, Trooper needs food that is nutritious, yummy and healthy. Here are some simple tips to keep in mind when shopping for dog food.

  1. Read the label.
Stay natural whenever possible. The less chemicals that are in your dog food, the more likely better it is for your dog. Rule of thumb, if you can’t even understand its own ingredients, don’t feed it to your dog.
    .
  2. Know what your dog’s stomach can and cannot handle.
This comes with time, but of course over time, you’ll be able to pick up on what your dog’s stomach enjoys or not. Also, its best to brush up on the full list of items that you need to keep your dog away from. This list of foods that your dog should stay away from published by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals® (ASPCA®) can be found here. These food items are toxic and harmful to your dog.
    .
  3. Look for adequacy.
Dog food is a little different than human food. For dogs, their food label has to have a nutritional adequacy statement. This statement reveals the food’s use and standards. For example, the label will show “This food is complete and balanced for all life stages”.
